My Wish by Kim Soucie

When you look up the word prayer, one of the definitions is “an earnest hope or wish”.  My wish is always peace.  I have a prayer that hangs in my home.  The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.  I read it on a regular basis and try to live up to it.  I need to read it to remind myself often.  It has been my favorite prayer since I was a young girl and I’m turning 60 years old on November 25th.  Just a few days away.  As a Realtor, I think it explains our job.  And as people that are just trying to live life the best we can I think it is very helpful.

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where here is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.  O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
Every day we try to help people with the biggest decisions of their life, and often the biggest financial decisions of their life.  We are their counsel.  We have to stay strong during difficult times.  I always tell people, “It will all work out”.  On the surface I stay calm repeating to them, “It will all work out”.  Things can be blowing up all around me and I have to look for solutions.  I do not find the solutions on my own.  There’s calls to my Real Estate Partner, Rich Rodenburg.  Calls to loan officers, calls to inspectors, contractors, you name it.  Whatever needs to be done I’m searching for solutions.  Sometimes there are tears and sometimes there can be yelling.  Then I report back to my clients with a calm voice, “It will all work out”.🙂
As Realtors, we try to keep peace between everyone.  It’s not always an easy task.  Oh boy is it not an easy task at times.  We’ve all been there.  We try to right the wrongs.  We try to give hope.  We try to keep people happy.  We try to understand what they are going through, and I think for the most part we all understand their situation.  There’s a lot of trying and it can be stressful.  We console our clients and put their mind at ease.  We protect them with everything we have.  And, sometimes that still isn’t even enough.
There are so many moving parts in Real Estate.  Things we have no control over, but we keep moving forward.  I’m so thankful for everyone behind the scenes that help us work towards smooth closings.  So many wonderful people our clients never even meet.  We all have the same goal.  A peaceful ending.
We are human and it’s important for us to make sure we take care of ourselves so we can stay strong for everyone that looks to us for help.  On days when you’re needing extra strength, pull my friend, St Francis’s out and read his prayer.  It will all work out. 🙂
